Segment requirements#
For a small medical practice, assess:
- HIPAA evidence and scope: A product page mentioning HIPAA does not by itself establish that every deployment is compliant. The sources we checked identify Acronis Cyber Protect as having BAA availability when using Cyber Protect Cloud with Enhanced Security mode, according to Adelia Risk. A Veeam-specific BAA status is not published in the sources we checked.
- Workload coverage: Acronis lists support for workstations, Windows and Linux servers, virtual environments, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Veeam lists virtual hypervisors, hyperscaler clouds, physical servers, workstations, endpoints, NAS, object storage, file shares, data lakes, enterprise applications and Entra ID workloads in its licensing policy.
- Recovery options: Acronis lists granular backup and recovery, local or cloud storage, backup replication and one-click mass recovery. Veeam lists instant recovery, offsite replication, recovery anywhere and recovery orchestration.
- Ransomware resilience: Acronis lists ransomware protection, backup malware scanning and immutable storage in its product comparison. Veeam describes immutable-by-design options and ransomware recovery capabilities on its Essentials page.
- Operational fit: Acronis emphasizes automated scans and schedules, centralized management and patch management. Veeam emphasizes a unified platform, monitoring and recovery capabilities.
- Contract review: Confirm the applicable BAA, storage location, retention, access controls and recovery procedures with the vendor or reseller. These details are not fully published in the sources we checked.

Acronis states that its listed starting prices are per device and that prices may vary by region, reseller or subscription term. Veeam states that Essentials is sold in five-license packs up to 50 workloads, with annual subscription bundles ranging from one to five years. The Veeam price is published as 95 USD/license/year, not as a calculated 10-, 50- or 200-user total.
Acronis Cyber Protect is licensed per device, not per user. Therefore, headcount does not directly determine the published Acronis list price, although the number and type of protected devices do. Veeam Data Platform Essentials is licensed per workload, with licenses required for protected workloads and enabled member users where applicable under Veeam’s licensing policy.
